First day at Kinangop, Kenya


Jambo!!  Sorry it took two days to post this video, even though it has been done for a while.  The rainy season has come (early they say) and the internet connection is not very stable.  Unfortunately, the video is not as good quality as the pervious ones due to the slow connection (we have to make it on the smallest file possible).  I have another one day that should be up tomorrow morning (while you sleep).  Things are going great here...I will be back in Nairobi on Friday for the third grade 8:30 Skype call by the way... :)

Day 1 at the Mayfield House in Nairobi


Our first night we stayed at the Mayfield House in Nairobi, Kenya.  The weather was beautiful and our contact, Christine, is wonderful.  We will be traveling out to Into Abbas Arms this afternoon after I complete a SKYPE session with my class.  Here is the latest vlog:

On our way...


We are officially on our way back to Kenya, in fact I am writing this post in the Detroit Airport.   I am going to be doing a vlog (video log) each day for my class back home, I will post them on here for all of you to enjoy as well.  Thanks to all of your support and prayers and we are super excited to see what God has planned for us in this trip.  Here is our departure video from the Indy airport:

Who knew making bread was so hard...


So, I REALLY wanted to bake my own bread and start making bread instead of buying it.  I tried to make from scratch three times and each time it was horrible...the bread would never rise and you couldn't eat it, (you could use it for a door stop however.) I was very frustrated. 


My wonderful husband then decided to help with the matter by taking matter into his hands.  He went to Goodwill and bought a $7.99 bread maker.  I was excited, even though I still wanted to accomplish making bread by hand, I was excited to finally make some homemade bread.

I followed the directions exactly, set the timer and waited (almost four hours).  When the time came, we opened the top.


It looked HORRIBLE, was hard as a rock and when we tasted it, it tasted awful.  I googled "Tips on making wheat bread" and found that you really need to add gluten to it to make it rise correctly.  Although disappointed, I was happy to know that it probably wasn't me in the first place. 

I decided to try to again, but make white bread instead to see if it really could be accomplished.

After another three hours of waiting we pulled the lid off and it worked!   It was beautiful and it tasted good too!
 


On another note, my husband always makes me dinner for Valentine's Day.  This Valentine's Day he made a homemade pizza.  He also got me roses and this elephant I really wanted (it's really cool, it move and makes sound and such.  I thought it would be great to have when we have kids someday.

Busy, Busy, Busy...


It's been a while since our last post, but we have been really busy lately...
The Colts lost in the Super Bowl...but we still love them!


 First off, school has been great.  We have been getting back into the swing of things and time seems to be flying by. The last couple of weekends were spent with family and friends, watching football, eating pizza and playing wii Mario Cart (provided by my brother).


Lately, we have been busy preparing for our trip to Kenya.  We saw our travel doctor, Dr. Jeffery Jones with St. Francis, and he hooked us both up with a shot of tetanus and whopping cough.  I had to take typhoid again, since my five years was up from my last vaccination.  I HATE shots, but luckily it was oral.  Seth and I like to kid and say that if there was ever a biochemical attack, we would be prepared, unless it's anthrax.




We leave in five weeks, I feel like I am literally counting the days.  A good friend of ours, Jim and Jess Baker, just returned from their trip to Kenya, seeing their pictures and hearing their tales makes me want it even more.
